While the turtle was placed in a MS classroom, the 3rd graders are active in their learning about Maryland aquatic life. Third graders were able to come and observe Leonardo, assist with measurements, and review the life cycle of the terp. They enjoyed the hands-on experience to showcase their learning.

MS students were learning about Renaissance and Leonardo da Vinci's affinity for building. They were assigned to make a 'Flying Machine' that could support the current weight of the terp (Leonardo) for flight. They implemented with eggs...but the spirit of connecting with the terp was there.

Since the turtle was being hosted by the MS SS teacher we were able to connect it to their learning through the naming process. They utilized the socratic method and combined the principles of democratic voting to name the terp. The students were able to connect their learning about Leonardo Davinci to the turtle via its name. They also enjoyed the connection to Mutant Ninja Turtles.
